Help from the Professionals
If you think you or someone you know is experiencing postnatal depression then it’s important to seek advice from a health visitor and/or GP.
Try to be honest about how you feel and remember that feeling low or anxious is not a sign of weakness. It is an illness like any other and can be treated. If you are concerned that you’re not getting the support you need, be tenacious – go back and insist on seeing another professional as it’s important you feel comfortable with the person you are dealing with.
We help parents to articulate how they are feeling by writing it down in a simple one page document so they can take it to their medical appointments and simply hand it over. This can be useful if you are scared to say how they feel. Download our Appointment Checklist>
