We are thrilled to be able to invite Leanne Davies to join us at our groups on 12th Jan (Macc), 17th Jan (Congleton) & 23rd Jan (Sandbach) to bring her gentle, intuitive expertise as an OT in the newly formed perinatal mental health team in our region.
This is part of a new partnership we have created to bring parents tools, tips and chat to complement the existing peer support experience and will continue as a rolling programme in coming months.
Leanne is a mum who has faced her own personal challenges, and brings experience of facilitating thoughtful group interaction and discussion using techniques such as mindfulness to support wellbeing.
Leanne said: “For as long as I can remember I wanted children so felt extremely lucky when I became pregnant. Like many first time mums I was naïve about pregnancy, birth and motherhood and had a harsh jolt to reality when my daughter was born almost 3 months premature and critically ill. My journey into motherhood was a turbulent one but gave me a deep appreciation and passion for illness and trauma in the perinatal period.
“Both my professional and personal experiences have led me to working with a perinatal mental health team and it’s a privilege. I am very excited to work collaboratively with the Smile Group to share some of my expertise and co-produce some resources that will be extremely valuable to some of the pregnant ladies and new mums that my team and I work with.”
Natalie and Ruth, co-founders of Smile Group, added: “We are keen to keep evolving our services and relish the opportunity to partner with Leanne from our regional specialist perinatal mental health team to draw on her expertise and provide additional support for families coming to Smile. We believe strongly that positive change in perinatal mental health support needs to be joined up and embedded in the clinical landscape so it is well-signposted and truly collaborative.”
