Creating digital connections to combat feelings of isolation

While Smile’s core offering is delivered through our range of face-to-face services across Cheshire East, we recognise that not everyone wants to attend Peer Support Groups.

Smile reached out through social media channels from its early days of conception in 2011 to start sharing our own stories and normalising the experience of perinatal mental health challenges. We felt that it was useful to create honest conversations in the digital domain to overcome stigma and encourage parents to reach out for support.

This conversation has continued over the last 10 years as we have shared our stories in national media and helped to raise awareness of the importance of grassroots community perinatal mental health services. This prompted our involvement in The Hearts & Minds Partnership alongside Acacia Family Support and Bluebell Care, which is a programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund to connect and support VCS perinatal mental health services across England.

Smile is also a regular contributor to valuable resources such as #PNDHour on Twitter and is a member of the Perinatal Mental Health Partnership, which hosts the annual Maternal Mental Health Matters campaign.

While we are rooted in our local communities across Cheshire East, we also have a global audience through our presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
